Sponsorship opportunities for women student-athletes are rapidly increasing due to Name, Image Likeness (NIL). As reported by The Sports Business Journal, citing a report from athlete influencer platform Opendorse, revenue from women’s sports has grown 4.5 times that of men between 2022 and 2024, and total NIL spending on women’s sports could reach more than $660 million by 2027-2028, more than double what it just three years ago. Women athletes now account for almost a third of all NIL deals. A previous Opendorse analysis called “NIL at Four: Monetizing the New Reality” notes that sponsorship of women student-athletes is soaring, citing March Madness, volleyball and softball as fast-growing categories.
