A movie that follows first lady Melania Trump in the days leading up to her husband’s second-term inauguration, Melania: Twenty Days to History, has come under scrutiny, with critics accusing Amazon of trying to ingratiate itself with the president. The New York Times reports that Amazon has paid Melania Trump’s production company $40 million for the movie rights, or $26 million more than the second-highest bidder, Disney. The movie, which will be released in theaters Jan. 30, will be distributed on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon is also reportedly spending an additional $35 million to promote the film, which will open in up to 1,500 theaters across North America. Amazon has denied any political motives.
