Alice Shobe, Amazon’s global director of community impact, announced she is leaving the company after nine years. Her rationale? A career philosophy that you should “pick your peak.” “There are moments in your career when you need to pause, take stock and make big decisions,” Shobe said in a LinkedIn post. “You look at what you and your team have built, celebrate those wins (because we don’t do that enough!) and then ask yourself the tough questions.” Under Shobe’s leadership, Amazon launched a $3.6 billion housing fund that has resulted in the creation of more than 21,000 affordable homes, delivered 50 million free meals to needy families and supported 1,800 students with scholarships and internships. Shobe says she’s not done yet — there’s more to come for her soon enough. Bettina Stix has stepped in to fill her role upon her departure.
