Two British rowers have made history after rowing across the Pacific Ocean. Oceanographic magazine says the rowers — Jess Rowe, 28, and Miriam Payne, 26 — spent 165 days at sea “in a record-setting, nonstop and unsupported crossing of the Pacific Ocean,” noting that it was a “staggering 8,213-nautial-mile journey.” The pair began In Lima, Peru on May 5 and rowed an average of 16 hours per day. They are the first pair, the first women’s team, and the youngest to accomplish the feat. Their journey raised funds for Outward Bound Trust, a UK nonprofit that uses outdoor adventure to build confidence in young people.
