Renowned chimp expert and animal advocate Dr. Jane Goodall has died at 91. The Jane Goodall Institute announced that she passed away due to natural causes while in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States. “Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science,” the Institute said, “and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.” In 1960, Dr. Goodall established the longest-running wild chimpanzee study in Tanzania and pioneered conservation initiatives across the chimpanzee range for more than four decades. She created the JGI international environmental and humanitarian youth program Roots & Shoots, which is active in 75 countries.
