You’ve seen the ads: Dogs scarfing the moist morsels of meaty-looking food while eschewing dry, nasty kibbles. The fresh pet food market is set to increase by $3.2 billion between 2024 and 2029, and is essentially the only growth happening in the pet food market right now. But a new study published in the journal Animals suggests the claims fresh pet food manufacturers are making could be overstated at best and downright false at worst. The big takeaway is that the claims around processed items, fillers and human-grade ingredients were not linked to the health of pets and instead, pet food makers that complied with food safety and testing requirements were safe for animal consumption regardless of whether it was kibble or fresh.
