Women are increasingly using GLP-1 weight loss drugs for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Reuters reports that prescriptions have risen more than sevenfold in the past four years as many doctors say the medications help patients lose weight and have been known to sometimes improve menstrual cycles and fertility. A Truveta report, in partnership with the news outlet, notes that “patients with PCOS frequently meet traditional criteria for GLP-1 therapy.” PCOS affects hormonal balance and affects up to 10% of reproductive-aged women. Truveta says symptoms include disrupted ovulation, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, acne and weight gain.
