An 80-year-old New Jersey grandmother has become the oldest woman to finish the IRONMAN World Championship. Natalie Grabow finished the race in Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 11 in 16 hours and 45 minutes after swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles. The previous record was held by 78-year-old IRONMAN Hall of Fame inductee Cherie Gruenfeld. Grabow fell crossing the finish line, but got up as the PR announcer enthusiastically recognized her accomplishment. NPR reports that Grabow, a longtime running enthusiast, became a triathlete at age 59 but had to learn how to swim first.
