The New York Times ran an interesting piece on “Zelda the Welder,” a 102-year-old woman who was a welder during World War II and was fired after complaining that women were paid less than men. Yesterday was National Centenarian’s Day (as of 2019, there were approximately 72,000 people in the United States at least 100 years old). “Zelda” — real name Michelle Cohen — works out frequently and recently took up welding again as a hobby. She is being honored by Welder Underground, a Brooklyn-based apprentice program.
