Meta’s reproductive health crackdown raises free-speech concerns

Meta is facing pressure to stop suppressing reproductive-health information across its platforms. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, though its Stop Censoring Abortion project, says nearly 100 health care providers, clinics, educators, researchers and advocates have reported having posts removed, accounts restricted or content ranked lower after discussing abortion, mifepristone and medications used during pregnancy and childbirth. In a submission to Meta’s Oversight Board, EFF argues that the company’s rules prohibit drug sales but not legitimate medical information or personal health care experiences.  EFF is calling for clearer rules, consistent enforcement, meaningful explanations, stronger appeals and greater human review. The group warns that restricting reproductive-health information is particularly consequential when access to care is already limited.
