Microsoft is reacting to what it considers inaccurate media analysis of its recent report “Working with AI: Measuring the Occupational Implications of Generative AI.” Media outlets across the country reported that the study identified 40 jobs where AI could take over much of the work. In a response dated Aug. 21, Microsoft clarified that the study does not conclude that jobs will be eliminated and cautioned against such interpretations. “Not all the discussion was accurate in its portrayal of the study’s scope or conclusions,” Microsoft said. “Specifically, our study does not draw any conclusions about jobs being eliminated; in the paper, we explicitly cautioned against using our findings to make that conclusion.” A Goldman Sachs report found that AI “is expected to have only a modest and relatively temporary impact” on employment.
