Oregon’s first dedicated women’s hospital funded by $1.1B gift from Nike founder

Oregon is set to get its first hospital dedicated to women’s health, thanks to a $1.1 billion gift to Providence from Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny. The gift, one of the largest ever given to a U.S. health care institution, will fund construction of a new women’s hospital integrated into the campus of Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland. The facility will provide specialized care in gynecology, pregnancy, labor and delivery — including a modernized neonatal intensive care unit — menopause and cardiovascular health. Providence Heart Institute will also receive part of the funds to advance diagnostic cardiac imaging, add additional clinical trials and recruit leading doctors.
