The Trump Administration has formally withdrawn the United States from more than five dozen international organizations and treaties it says are “contrary to the interest of the United States.” Among the list of 66 are several humanitarian and global climate change organizations, including:
• The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
• The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
• The International Law Commission.
• The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The decision follows a review by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Critics call the move dangerous, but supporters say the organizations don’t directly benefit the U.S. The United States is now the only developed nation not involved in global climate treaties.
