Philosophy majors, take note: Indiana is cracking down on “low-earning” college degrees. Gov Mike Braun signed the legislation last week in a move the Indianapolis Star says could eliminate certain music degrees and “has been perceived by opponents as a full-blown attack on the liberal arts.” The move aligns with what Academicjobs.com calls a “growing national emphasis on return on investment in higher education.” The legislation forces higher-education institutions to identify and perhaps kill programs where median earnings drop below those with a high-school education. It takes effect July 1.
