The publication itself felt compelled to explain the relatively low numbers, noting that Black women make up just 1% of the venture capital community in the United States. “The disparity is often framed as a lack of willingness to take risks,” Forbes says, “but industry veterans say that interpretation overlooks systemic constraints.” The women are:

Ursula Burns, co-founder of private equity firm Integrum and former Xerox CEO.
Kesha Cash, founder and general Partner of VC firm Impact America Fund.
Sherrese Clarke, founder and CEO of HarbourView Equity Partners.
Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Alternatives, a private equity fund.
Tammy Jones, cofounder & CEO of private credit firm Basis Investment Group.
Stacy Brown-Philpot, founder and managing partner of Cherryrock Capital.
JoAnn Price, co-founder of private equity firm Fairview Capital Partners.
Jewel Burks Solomon, co-founder and managing Partner of VC firm Collab Capital.
Serena Williams, tennis legend and founder of Serena Ventures.
