The Trump administration is working toward creating the first female crash test dummy in the wake of new research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showing that women are at greater risk of injury in car crashes. The study notes that women have a significantly higher risk of injury than men in 26% of the 150 crash injury models. Women also have a higher risk for moderate injuries. In general, older and heavier adults face higher risks, though height doesn’t matter. The United States Department of Transportation is working to create a female crash test dummy because “acknowledging the biological differences between men and women can save lives,” NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison says.
