For the first time in 70 years, the United States has refused to sign off on the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women’s annual principles. The U.S. was the only country voting “no,” while 37 voted yes, with six abstentions. This is what the U.S. voted against last month: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices, and addressing structural barriers.” The U.S. called the document “ambiguous language promoting gender ideology.” The U.S. also recently withdrew from U.N. Women.
