A widening gender gap is redefining how Americans view the country’s future. The Public Religion Research Institute Survey, conducted in May, shows that a slim majority of Americans still cling to the promise of upward mobility, though belief in the “American Dream” suffered its steepest two-year decline among women while men remain more optimistic. Only 46% of women say they’re proud to be an American. Women also hold less favorable views of President Trump and his handling of the war in Iran. Younger people (ages 18 to 29) tend to have similar views across the board.
