Seventy-nine percent of women surveyed say hormone-related symptoms have affected their work or career decisions, while 76% say symptoms have held them back at work. Balance@Work surveyed nearly 5,600 women, 70% of whom are on hormone treatment. Hormone-related conditions affect up to one in 10 women, while one in five new mothers will experience postnatal depression. Ninety-percent will experience premenstrual symptoms. “Currently, employers are ill-equipped to deal with the challenges and support their workforce,” the report notes. “Put simply, women’s hormone health has a profound impact on the workforce.” Balance@Work urges employers to make hormone health a “mainstream employment issue.”
