AI scribes don’t save physicians much time but allow them to focus on more tasks throughout the day. A study published by the JAMA Network analyzed five major academic health care institutions, finding that the use of AI scribes cut just 13 minutes per eight hours of scheduled patient care on electronic health records and 16 minutes on documentation. The report notes, however, that physicians may be reallocating their time to patient care activities they consider more valuable, “thus influencing improvements in clinician satisfaction” and reducing burnout. Previous reports have found that, while physicians may not completely trust the accuracy of AI, most are using it anyway.
